Rambu

Rambu is an historic municipal building located in the centre of Tynset, in Nord-Østerdal. Built in 1889 as the town’s municipal hall and assembly space, the building has played many roles in local life over the years, serving at different times as a bank, cinema, youth club, and social venue. For generations, it has been a familiar and meaningful place for the local community.
Since 2015, visual artists Esther Breslin and Marius Reed have been developing Rambu as a working space for artists. Through Tynset Grafikkverksted, they have gradually transformed the building into a vibrant arena for artistic production, collaboration, and cultural activity. In 2019, they began leasing and administering the entire building from the municipality.
Today, Rambu houses a self-built but fully functional printmaking workshop equipped for screenprinting, lino, woodcut, and etching/drypoint, alongside shared studio spaces for local and visiting artists. The building also includes project and exhibition rooms, a podcast studio, and a historic cinema hall that has been brought back into use for film screenings, concerts, and public events.
While Rambu may lack modern polish, its character, quirks, and layered history are central to its identity. The building functions as a living cultural hub. A place for making, showing, gathering, and exchange, rooted firmly in its local context.
