About the Hosts
We are Esther Breslin and Marius Reed, an Irish and Norwegian/American artist couple based in Tynset, Norway, where we have been living and working for over a decade.
Between us, we have backgrounds in printmaking from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin and the Bergen Academy of Art and Design, as well as MFAs from the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art. In 2015, we co-founded Tynset Grafikkverksted within Rambu, a municipally owned building with a long and varied history. What began as a printmaking workshop has gradually expanded into a broader cultural arena that continues to grow, shift, and occasionally surprise us.
Our individual practices move across a wide range of processes and ideas. Esther’s work explores relationships between people and rural landscapes, often through long-term projects rooted in walking, mapping, and living closely with a place. Marius combines analogue techniques with newer technologies, experimenting with image-making and preservation in ways that are both precise and open-ended. Alongside our artistic work, we take on various freelance and project-based roles, which means there is usually a lot going on at once!
We live in nearby Tylldalen, about 20 km from Tynset, and move between these places as part of our everyday rhythm; balancing making, hosting, and family life.
As hosts, we aim to create a supportive and informal environment for visiting artists. We’re available for technical support in the workshop a couple of days a week, and we organise check-ins, shared meals, and gatherings when it feels right. We enjoy bringing people together, whether around a table, a project, or an idea, and are happiest when things are a little bit in motion.
We are also parents to a young child, which has gently (and not so gently) introduced new rhythms to our days. We tend to keep roughly to regular working hours, though flexibility, planned or otherwise, is very much part of how we live and work.
We care a lot about what we do, and less about pretending we have it all figured out!
